| “North Pole Christmas In Ice” successful opening + Winners |

![]() Photo Credit-Northern Horse Photography “North Pole Christmas In Ice” experienced a very successful opening weekend. Eighteen Alaskan and six Chinese Ice Artists each created a fantastic ice sculptures from a single block of ice in a 29 hour competition, required to have a Christmas related theme. Seventeen of the artist are from the interior, showing off the local talent present here. Nine judges scored each sculpture on technical difficulty and on artistic merits. One judge expressed the task to be “Very difficult, since the quality of the sculptures are very high. So many of them deserve high marks.” “I am glad I could judge each individual piece against the criteria give, that I did not have to pick a winner,” another judge said. Other comments over heard, “I am truly impressed with the intricate details on many of the sculptures.” “I am always amazed over what these artists can do with ice, they sometimes even seem to defy laws of physics…” “How do they do it?” The final placements are as follow: 1st Place: “It’s Love” by An Qi Feng of Harbin, China. 2nd Place: “Mary and Child” by Steve Brice of Fairbanks, AK 3rd Place: “Star Chaser” by Heather Brice of Fairbanks, AK Mayor's Award: (Chosen by the Volunteers of “North Pole Christmas In Ice”) “One-Moose Open Sleigh Christmas Stamp” Steve Dean, Nenana, AKArtist Choice Award: (Ice Artists choosing a fellow artist for recognition) 1st Place: “Christmas with My Little Chickadee” by Anita Tabor of Fairbanks, AK 2nd Place: “It’s Love” by An Qi Feng of Harbin, China. 3rd Place: “Ho, Ho, Ho” by An Zhe of Harbin, China “North Pole Christmas In Ice” will be open from Noon to 9PM every day thru December 30, 2007. There is a fun “Kids Park” with slides and twirls and a newly constructed “Ice Tunnel” as well as additional sculptures for the public to enjoy. This coming weekend food and other refreshments and entertainment will be available in the heated tent.
